Begin with the application

The container category is only the first decision.

Contents, compatibility, transportation status, filling and dispensing, lids, valves, handling and documentation can all affect which container configuration deserves consideration.

Intermediate bulk containers

IBC sizes and condition.

“New,” “rebottled” and “reconditioned” describe different component histories. They should not be treated as interchangeable terms.

Final availability, design type, markings, lids, valves and suitability depend on the requested application and inventory.

New IBC

New inner bottle, cage and structural components. The 125G IBC is offered only in this condition.

Rebottled IBC

A new inner bottle paired with a previously used, inspected outer cage. Available in 275G and 330G.

Reconditioned IBC

A previously used bottle and cage processed for an appropriate application, with applicable inspection and testing.

IBC components

Six common parts. One complete IBC.

Most conversations can start with six common names. Accessories such as gaskets, caps, seals, vents and tamper-evident devices belong with the part they serve. Exact designs vary.

Bottle The HDPE bottle holds the product and provides primary containment.

Cage The steel cage supports and protects the bottle. Bracing and attachment details vary by design.

Pallet The pallet supports the IBC during handling by forklift, pallet jack or conveyor. Materials vary by design.

Lid The lid closes the top fill opening. Its gasket and any vent must match the container design and use.

Valve The bottom valve controls product flow. Valve type, size, cap, seal and tamper-evident features can vary.

Faceplate The faceplate carries design markings, identification and customer or product labels.

When exact terminology matters: Regulations, design approvals and manufacturer records may use terms such as inner receptacle, outer frame, base, filling opening, discharge opening, closure, service equipment or appurtenance. Those formal terms should be retained when interpreting a specific requirement.

Why configuration matters

A composite IBC is evaluated as an assembled packaging system. For a UN design, closures and service equipment must conform to the qualified design and be installed and closed correctly.

New drums are the primary offering. Selected reconditioned availability may be discussed when the application and prior-use considerations make it appropriate.

30 gallon

A 30G drum specification sheet is not currently available. Closure values are configuration-dependent; use the instructions applicable to the identified manufacturer and supplied container.

Questions shared by both formats

Match the container to the work it must do.

Container size is visible. The less visible details—contents, service conditions, transportation, lids, valves, caps and documentation—often require more discussion.

Contents What material will the container hold, and what compatibility review applies?

Service How will the container be filled, stored, handled and emptied?

Transportation Is regulated shipment involved, and what packaging requirements apply?

Lids, valves and caps Which valve, lid, bung, cap or tamper-evident feature is needed?

Documentation What records, markings or shipment information must support the use?
